Speaker 1 | 08;34;32;11 | 08;34;36;15 | Welcome back to another episode of Blackout five. I'm your girl at Marine.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;34;36;26 | 08;34;37;29 | And I'm not a vixen.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;34;39;20 | 08;35;12;15 | So today, all we are going to be talking about, you know, a topic that we talk about often. Really delving into career and business. But in particular, I want to talk about how the challenges of those two areas kind of help forge new pathways and I think new opportunities and even new perspectives. And so this was actually to on this idea.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;35;12;16 | 08;35;40;19 | So it's not going to hand it over what what has been your experience with. Yeah, I'm going to leave it there. What has been your experience? Elaborate a little bit this as we think about like the hard that shows up in work and in business, what role do you think that that has had on your growth?
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;35;42;11 | 08;36;17;12 | Well, I'd say I actually mentioned before in another podcast. In areas like career growth and development, I'd say that when I wasn't challenged, I wasn't growing at all. And I think that if you are still looking for growth and attainment or even finding out or realizing it where you are is the correct place. If you're not challenged, you're probably not growing at the level that you should be.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;36;17;12 | 08;36;18;00 | Growing.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;36;18;14 | 08;37;00;13 | In your particular, I guess, time frame, if you will. One of the things that I point to is I actually took on a new role in an organization. And every day I'm asking myself, do I know the right things? Am I doing best practices? Like, I'm actively seeking growth and material and I'm validating my quality. And I think that in those types of areas and in times where work was most challenging for me, I also saw the most growth.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;37;01;01 | 08;37;32;25 | Oh, in the idea that I gained new skills, that I showed up better, that I was more invested, that I, I mean, I think that the super loaded question, but those times where I wasn't really challenged. There was nowhere for me to go, nowhere for me to jump like that. And I think because of that, too, like even my my leadership style, I always have.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;37;32;26 | 08;37;55;12 | So before you would hear the word like stretch goals, you've got stretch goals for your employees. And I don't think I ever really took that seriously until I thought about those types of experiences in my own life that. So now I'm actively as as a leader talking to my employees about their stretch goals. Like it's not just a one off that they have the opportunity to do.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;37;55;19 | 08;38;08;24 | I'm like, So are you making progress here? Are you are you figuring this thing out? Are you focusing on this thing because I am looking for substantial growth from them.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;38;10;18 | 08;38;33;18 | Yeah, I think that makes complete sense. I wonder, like, what do you think is contributing to that shift in like your perspective on. I mean, for example, the stretch goals, like what do you think is different now than when you were that employee getting the stretch goals?
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;38;33;24 | 08;38;53;14 | I didn't understand what it meant to me or having a stretch goal. Like I was like, Oh, when when my boss came to me and said, I'm going to give me this stretch goal, I was like, in my head, I was thinking, Oh, this is a thing that I I'm not really being held accountable to. Oh, this is the thing that's kind of extra on top of my job.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;38;53;29 | 08;39;15;29 | I don't think I fully appreciated that this was an opportunity for me to learn more and that my boss was actually communicating to me as well, that there are some more value that I could be bringing to the organization that I wasn't bringing today. That the answer.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;39;15;29 | 08;39;42;05 | Was that it does and that really I just had a low moment. So I remember doing goals for work back in the day in like the annual review process, but I never took it seriously and I never y'all know, I'm like, I'm a vision person. Like, you know, that's how I live my life. I have goals, I have all that.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;39;43;03 | 08;39;46;23 | But then it's like, but work was just a job.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;39;47;05 | 08;39;48;18 | Yeah. Yeah.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;39;49;06 | 08;39;56;13 | And like, for me, I think now the biggest change work is so intermingled with my life.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;39;56;23 | 08;39;57;29 | Yeah. Yeah.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;39;58;17 | 08;40;24;02 | I'm like, a goal for my job is a goal for my life. You know what I mean? And so, like, I take it so much more seriously now because there's no separation of work in life. Because, like, my work is what enables is. No, that's not the right word. That's not the right. I don't know how to describe it, but like, it's so interdependent now.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;40;24;02 | 08;40;40;02 | Where my work in the past, my life, I'd say like when I think about blogs, don't go to this for a long time because I think I told the story before, but people always told me I was too serious. They're like, excuse theory, just too focused on work. You have no fun. And what.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;40;40;02 | 08;40;41;03 | I didn't realize.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;40;41;06 | 08;41;14;12 | Then that I now realize is I find joy in my work like So by of course, my work is a portion of my life because it it's where I am help people. It's where I can be creative and innovative. It's my outlet for who I am as an individual. Now and so I think I agree with you, but it's an idea that I no longer separate my work and who I am because that is who I am or part of me.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;41;15;13 | 08;41;20;28 | And I will say we got different reasons because I was totally, totally at work.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;41;20;28 | 08;41;49;08 | And I knew I do. I really I, I enjoy my work now. And so it's funny, though, when that's all we're talking about, expectations like one of the reasons that I want to be good at my job is just because I want to be good at a portion of who I am. Like knowing like so innovation and something that I love, like solving new problems and, and those types of things.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;41;49;13 | 08;42;09;03 | And so me learning my right now, I'm actually trying to figure out how I learn more about like I see and learning and stuff like that. And I'm like, this is interesting. It was cool and and it's it'll help you in my work, but also it helps me in my creative space and in my stare at it.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;42;09;07 | 08;42;45;09 | And I'm laughing because like, y'all, like I was the nerd in school and like it like now you're the nerd in school, and now I'm not like, for me, like, the reason that I don't say that I enjoy work, I've never say that. But it is all right. It feels very purpose aligned now in that like literally all of the skills I've ever gained in life I'm able to utilize in one place.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;42;45;28 | 08;43;19;26 | But for me, like why it's also so important for life is that I'm able to, you know, do this concept of like designing your life like I'm on a workstation right now where, you know, we're in the mountains and I'm just, you know, I've blacked out my calendar for the week and like, to me it enables me to be able to live the life of my desires in a way that is also pushing me and developing me personally, like, you know, to do public speaking and to show up in ways that I don't desire to grow.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;43;20;04 | 08;43;43;05 | But like it really pushes me to be a better human in the world to like, you know, pay attention to my finance is and like really all these things that are so quintessential, I think, to being a human, like I experience as a business owner, but I never really experience those things at work. And I think part of it is because I tend to let the two worlds collide.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;43;43;20 | 08;44;03;09 | Yeah, I it's so funny because the way that you're describing what you're benefiting from your work is so different from mine. But I do think that I too, I didn't experience that at work for that same reason that I didn't want two worlds collide. They were always so separate from like who I was was completely different from how I made money.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;44;04;20 | 08;44;14;00 | And I think I think that that's a weird coincidence. Probably not as coincidental as it sounds thing.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;44;14;09 | 08;44;21;25 | But I think for me, the reason I did it, I was intentional about not letting them collide.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;44;21;25 | 08;44;23;12 | I was to be clear.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;44;23;14 | 08;44;49;06 | But yeah, it's not that they just did it. But like for me it was, it was a bit risky to let them collide. Like if I was to show up as my full and authentic self, I might not fit it or like I might not be appreciated or might, you know, be looked down upon for those contributions that I'm bringing because of how, you know, because of who I am.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;44;49;18 | 08;45;00;13 | And so I was very intentional about not letting those things cross over and out to my detriment right away.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;45;00;18 | 08;45;18;01 | Like I like it when it was intentional. And not only are they my ex, it was my existing separate, but I was also a different person in my work than I was at home. The way I communicate with different what I was wanting to share was different.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;45;18;09 | 08;45;29;26 | My work so had no personality, no deaths, nothing. It was like nothing. Nothing. I think I would stay away.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;45;30;25 | 08;46;09;00 | Oh, and and it's funny, though, because I think that you'll find that both people of color, most minorities, whether that be gender specific. And I think that a lot of people show up that way. It worked and then separate that from life. And I think that for me, I felt like my personal self wouldn't have been accepted. It wouldn't have been considered professional.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;46;09;00 | 08;46;30;05 | Like I told you, I was in that episode, I didn't share even my hair, my natural hair. What that actually looked like I did. And I dressed a certain way that wasn't because of that with how I dress at home. And and even like on our casual days, I was explicit and what I would wear, what I would wear, what I, you know, that kind of thing.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;46;31;22 | 08;46;45;28 | And I and I do think is because I didn't believe that if I showed up, it was like gold self I would be valued, accepted and it and held in a high regard even though I was very ultra conservative.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;46;46;28 | 08;46;47;03 | About.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;46;47;12 | 08;46;52;25 | Like I was, you know, having rainbow hair and, and, you know, whatever.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;46;53;04 | 08;47;14;26 | It would have, it probably would have been accepted, right? It would have been, look, that crazy. But, you know, there's one experience in our childhood that like, really cemented this for me was the whole job interview outfit and the shot of glamor.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;47;15;00 | 08;47;18;27 | Yeah. Yeah. It is very clear to me. Yeah. For how.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;47;20;00 | 08;47;29;19 | I. So our mother had a strict rule on what you could wear to a job interview. It was like black and white.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;47;30;22 | 08;47;32;06 | She either said black or blue.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;47;33;01 | 08;47;57;16 | Black or blue. I didn't like blue like that was there. So for me it was black or white. It like, very plain. Like we're talking about black pants. White shirt. Yeah. Blue or brown shoots, like, I'm sorry, black or brown shoes. And that was the uniform. And like, you just needed to wear that. I remember the very first time I did not wear that to an interview.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;47;58;16 | 08;48;03;11 | I thought I didn't get the job because I was wearing colors.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;48;03;23 | 08;48;06;21 | I have to say, I think then I still have worn that.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;48;11;01 | 08;48;34;00 | But that So not only that first job, but like the way that you have to show up at work in this in this facade, this like uniform in the you know, you have to show up just like this can draw outside the lines like you got to be this way. I think that really did internalize in me from that.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;48;34;00 | 08;48;35;25 | It took me a long time. I was it took a.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;48;35;25 | 08;48;37;14 | Cultural thing that happened.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;48;37;14 | 08;48;38;13 | So like like.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;48;38;13 | 08;48;46;09 | I hate to veer into this, but the black community, in showing up in white America and giving corporate space.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;48;46;14 | 08;48;46;28 | Like.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;48;47;19 | 08;49;16;21 | There's been studied, like black people have been very intentional about fitting me in, by the way that you look back, if you look at the sixties and seventies and eighties, like mothers who took care of their children and children were going to be something they had a uniform about. So when she would tell us that column of you remember these stories, but they wore this third type shoe, but the penny they were the penny it in the front or whatever, like that was the acceptable shoe.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;49;16;28 | 08;49;42;28 | If you were going to be a good standing citizen, that that the little girls always wore kites for church and met their I mean, there was a standard because you couldn't be seen as different from anyone else because there would be a negative connotation or negative view of who you would be or that you were capable of fitting into society if you did.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;49;43;01 | 08;49;54;18 | So I think that we can't ignore the historical reference point in looking a certain way to fit in to society or.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;49;55;09 | 08;50;23;20 | Oh, I got to challenge this because because I took my first solo international trip at like 7080 that and that is the point of my little brained and shattered. Like, you know, we had to travel quite a bit as a family, whatnot. But like, the world is bigger than.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;50;24;23 | 08;50;29;12 | The business of us. They fly me. Let me be clear. I don't think this is a global thing. I think.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;50;29;25 | 08;50;57;10 | You are. And I would even and I would even venture to say as small as our parents, you know, really, they're thinking about what, you know, the U.S. context is. Because, listen, I've been down to Maryland, so that's a different type of America today. But in Minneapolis. And so it's also like, what is the scope of their existence in their view, that I think we're also not seeing.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;50;57;27 | 08;51;02;03 | And so so, yes, I just want you know, I share.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;51;02;03 | 08;51;30;28 | That with that. I don't disagree with that. But I think that there is a my my point in saying all of that is there is historical context or that that frame of reference, like our mom was born in the sixties. So to understand in Chicago in the sixties. Right. And so to understand that as to how her mind was framed and what she was passing to us was based on her own personal experience of this little girl growing up in the sixties.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;51;31;09 | 08;51;52;17 | That was also but also there's other factors, not college educated parents, like growing up in middle class, blue collar worker, like all these other things that are not a part of our story anymore. And so we now live outside of our whole lives experience.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;51;52;21 | 08;51;53;00 | Yeah.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;51;53;21 | 08;52;06;19 | And so the rules are totally different now. And so just thinking about all of those things that we carry with us are not the things that are going to continue to carry us to this next level and beyond.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;52;07;10 | 08;52;36;20 | And it's all very go Going back to I'll get back to the topic a little bit is I do I struggle a bit that like I am at a point where so thinking about career growth and where I'm goin, it's very important for me now to establish relationships that I can grow from because my personal relationship, like my family relationships, I've already surpassed any experience that they've had.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;52;36;20 | 08;53;07;05 | It's career wise. And so now I do I'm, I'm, I try to get to experiences that will challenge me or to grow me or provide some frame of reference, a relationship that I can really learn from. And that's hard to do. So you're asking me about being in a situation though I most recently I felt like I was in a situation where I learned so much because I was given an opportunity, one to be in a position that I've never been in before.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;53;07;14 | 08;53;31;14 | But also I was surrounded around people who had more similar, I'd say, business experience where I could learn things from them. They had masses that I hadn't necessarily mastered, and that's also ran for me because I think in corporate America there is like this concept of this ladder, right? If you're not on someone's level, they don't want to talk to you.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;53;31;14 | 08;53;58;18 | And so it's hard to develop those relationships. Will that be mentor mentee? And then what they're willing to show you is limited, right? Or the kind of conversations that you can have with them is limited. And so even for myself, I actually in, in working with the consulting, so working in this consulting position gave me an opportunity to have experiences that I wouldn't have had in my other job or my other opportunity.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;53;58;18 | 08;54;16;29 | It also gave me relationship with people at a higher level that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to get to know and to actually fully experience everything that's happened at that level. Does that make sense? So just think about the challenges that I was able to glean from and the growth that it provided me.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;54;17;28 | 08;54;51;15 | Yeah, for sure. It for sure. I experienced similar things by volunteering for a nonprofit board. It's like, I think you get to experience different types of challenges. They give you perspective, an appreciation for many things that you probably don't have the access to in your day to day. And so, you know, when I was doing a nonprofit board, like I think my first position was like in finance, around fundraising, and then I had like the Treasurer role.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;54;51;15 | 08;55;23;24 | So I was like managing all the budgets and things like that. But I also had the decision making power around those budgets and like could tell people how they could spend their money. And in my job I had a similar role, but not, you know, with not as much power. And so I'm not like that nonprofit board was very hard and it challenged me to show up as a leader and as like a not only a leader in the organization, but also a manager of people, which I didn't have at my job in.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;55;23;24 | 08;56;02;09 | Those things continued to challenge me and to this day. But certainly I think that helped me in that role. I think today though, as I think about challenges, because work and like life are so intermingled, I think I've never experienced failure, like at the magnitude that I feel it like if something goes wrong in the business because it's so interconnected, like everything else, that has been hard for me.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;56;02;09 | 08;56;23;01 | I think about like when I was getting my pilot's license, that was hard because I'm afraid of heights. Like it actually it didn't look, it was difficult, but like, that was something I willingly signed up for it and I could quit any moment. Or if I had a bad flight, like I could go cry about it or like, whatever.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;56;23;01 | 08;56;50;27 | But it wasn't like it was just something I was doing and like, my life didn't depend on it. I mean, technically, but like, you get what I'm saying. It wasn't that deep. Like I could walk away at any time. And I also think about, you know, getting degrees and things like that that have been hard. But I've always been felt a level of detachment from it that like it wasn't a reflection of who I was if that thing didn't go as I thought it would.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;56;51;10 | 08;57;13;27 | But today in business, I'm like, if this thing goes wrong, like I'm a catastrophic failure in like, I must be a bad person. If I made a bad decision, I'm like, I'm never going to recover from this. But, you know, it's taken me weeks and months to get here to this place. But I think right now I'm in a space where I can really, number one, appreciate.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;57;15;01 | 08;57;33;16 | For me, it's like God's redirection because, you know, he will shake some stuff up if you're not on track. And I'm a firm believer in that, and I believe that's what's that's some of the failure that I've been experiencing. And I don't even want to call it a failure because, you know, today I don't feel like it is.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 08;57;35;12 | 08;57;53;07 | But there's been some redirection that I did not plan for, but I'm already starting to see the fruit of that redirection. Even, you know, no matter how hard it was, those things needed to happen and I needed to learn from them to be able to steward the next things.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;57;53;07 | 08;58;15;01 | Well, yeah. That point though, like, I don't know, I told you this, but I got to a different space in my career, a different level of my career, and I think I share this with you. I've always been a person of many jobs. And so I was I was doing something and I was like, Why does this seem so natural to me?
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;58;15;17 | 08;58;33;20 | And I sat down. I was like, Oh, that's it, because I've already done this. What? I was doing this thing over here and what I did this thing over here, I've done this as well. When I was talking to somebody, I don't know why we're telling you this, but the sales calls I was thinking sells calls. And I was like, This seems very familiar.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;58;33;20 | 08;58;53;22 | And I was like, Oh, yeah, I actually I've done several hours of sales training, which I think that I've experienced. So some of the lessons that I took from it, although it was so long ago, I did adapt some of those things naturally. So people say all of time to me, they're like, Oh, you're really good at this.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;58;53;29 | 08;59;15;15 | And I hadn't recognized that those were because our segments of my life where I did those types of things that I trained on those types of investments, 0 hours on those types of things. And so it's also funny to me, though, because I think that you will not get to the level that you are supposed to be on unless you have those experiences that you talk about.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;59;15;15 | 08;59;44;26 | Right. And that ultimately there's a design for your life, that there are things that you're supposed to go through. There are things in your holds experience that will take you to the place that you're supposed to be. And I, without a doubt, I'll firmly believe that. And the experiences that I've had haven't always been great. And I, in your words, but I failed a lot.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 08;59;45;12 | 09;00;08;14 | I don't know if you recall this, but it was I was thinking back about some of the things that I've done. And one of the things I did was, was real estate. And at one point life I was significantly in debt. And for me, the problem that other people weren't significantly at the time, but I didn't know I was going to get past it.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 09;00;08;27 | 09;00;31;19 | I was like, Oh my God, I'm starting all over. Oh my God, I, I messed up. And and at the time I was just having my first child and all my life I had said I was preparing financially for for to be able to be a mother, to be able to be present. When my mom was sick, to be all those things.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 09;00;31;19 | 09;01;00;14 | And I woke up and I wasn't in that space. I was devastated emotionally. Like I was like, What the heck was I doing for the last 15 years if I wasn't prepared for this moment in my life? And I look back at it now and I go, That was so small. Like those numbers that I gave them wasn't a big deal, but it's only because I was able to grow through those experiences.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 09;01;01;13 | 09;01;20;02 | And now, by the way, I understand that God wants me to take a bigger risk that I was able to take or willing to take them to set me up for this thing that he has greater for me. I needed this experience in order to get to that experience that he wants me to have.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 09;01;21;00 | 09;02;01;24 | I remember all this. No, like I anxiously remember every time I was like dealing in money. Like when the magnitude of money would change. Yeah, like I distinctly remember when it was like, five and ten, 15, then, you know, 15. 100. Yeah. Then hundreds of 500,000. It's a 5010 thousand is 50,000. Now in that now we're talking 8000 plus thousands like our the level that we're talking about in terms of the magnitude of the things.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 09;02;01;24 | 09;02;21;20 | And at each level we learn something to help us to be able to steward at the next level. And sometimes the mistakes are just you know, there's still that big, you know, as the winds are. But I think there's much to be learned at every level that is preparing you for the next.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 09;02;23;25 | 09;02;26;14 | Oh, that's where I'm going to.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 09;02;26;14 | 09;02;36;10 | Go. Oh, that's okay. Okay. We're going to leave it there. We're going to leave it there. And until next time, y'all, I am you girls. And he's Nicole.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 2 | 09;02;36;10 | 09;02;38;03 | And I'm Shannon Dixon. And we are.
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Speaker 1 | 09;02;38;03 | 09;02;39;00 | Black girl Flag.
